Often referred to as the Tejano Madonna , Selena s life was cut short after she was shot and killed on March 31, 1995, by Yolanda Saldivar, her business manager and friend. Selena met Saldivar at her room at the Days Inn in Corpus Christi, Texas demanding financial statements. Saldivar shot Selena in the back. At 11.49 am on March 31 1995, an employee at the Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas was shocked to see a young woman crawling across the building’s sun-baked courtyard. Behind her snaked a trail of blood.
“I’ve been shot,” she cried.
“Who shot you?” he asked, not knowing what else to say.
“Yolanda,” said 23 year-old Selena Quintanilla- Pérez. Those were the last words she would ever speak.
