Whether looking the most like their owner or being happy and they know it, just plain dogs deserve to be celebrated.
The Just Plain Dog Show, held Saturday at Dallas Park, celebrated the simple, unique and in-between qualities of dogs for the 48th annual show.
The show allows for all types of dogs to participate along with their owners, who must be at least 6 years old.
My favorite part is just being able to see all the different groups of dogs come around and children being able to have as much fun as the dogs do, said Spencer Hall, marketing and special events coordinator for Gaston County Parks and Recreation, the host of the event. ....

If one passionate belief has guided my 44-year career as a journalist, it is that everyone has a story - a story worth telling.
Some folks can tell their own story just fine, thank you. While others may need a little help.
It was thus a joy to sit down and talk recently with Lynn Helton, an intern with Gaston County Parks and Recreation, who shares my passion and who has designed a program to help some of Gaston County s older folks preserve their stories for posterity.
