If one passionate belief has guided my 44-year career as a journalist, it is that everyone has a story - a story worth telling.
Some folks can tell their own story just fine, thank you. While others may need a little help.
It was thus a joy to sit down and talk recently with Lynn Helton, an intern with Gaston County Parks and Recreation, who shares my passion and who has designed a program to help some of Gaston County s older folks preserve their stories for posterity.

If so, A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is a program for you.
One out of three adults age 65 and older fall each year. As we age, we can develop a fear of falling. This fear can result in a decrease in physical activity and lead to increased isolation.
Studies show 30% of individuals who fall suffers injuries that decrease mobility and independence and result in high medical costs. The National Council on Aging reported the total cost of fall injuries in 2013 was $34 billion with 78% being paid by Medicare. ....
