Digital economy key to job creation

───   11:34 Mon, 12 Apr 2021
President Cyril Ramaphosa says one of the ways to grow the South African economy is by “harnessing the job-creating potential of the digital economy”.
The country is still reeling from the effects of Covid-19, where over two million people lost their jobs as a result of the various lockdowns.
“We have to both recover the ground that we have lost due to the coronavirus pandemic, and to gain new ground by placing our economy on a fundamentally different growth trajectory,” Ramaphosa said in his weekly newsletter on Monday.
“One of the concrete ways that we can do this is by harnessing the job-creating potential of the digital economy, whose growth has only been accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic.”

Two more to appear in court for Upington cash-in-transit heist

───   12:02 Mon, 12 Apr 2021
Two more suspects are expected to appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the cash-in-transit heist that took place in Upington last Tuesday.
The robbery took place at the Kalahari Mall where five men allegedly robbed two security guards when they were loading money into an ATM.
Police say about R4,5 million was taken during the incident.
The Hawks arrested the second suspect on Friday and a joint operation by the agency and crime intelligence led to the arrest of a third suspect on Saturday in the Free State.
An undisclosed amount of money was also recovered. The Hawks say investigations are ongoing and further arrests are imminent.
