Today a filibuster is a political strategy in which a senator “speaks,” or threatens to speak for hours, to delay efforts to vote for a bill. The tactic takes advantage of Senate rules that say a senator, once recognized, may speak on an issue without being impeded by anyone. The Ledger LAKELAND The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to track down a white male who broke into a pre-kindergarten classroom at Griffin Elementary School and did at least $1,500 in damage to the building, including windows and doors. The Sheriff s Office said that on March 5 at 8:20 p.m., the suspect burglarized a Pre-K classroom portable at the school in unincorporated Lakeland. When he broke into the classroom, he caused substantial damage to the building. The suspect is a white male, possibly in his 30s, with short brown hair. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt with some sort of graphic on the front, black shorts with an orange stripe on the pant, and black and white Nike sneakers. ....
