As more American women than ever before flex their political muscles in elective office, Louisiana lags most of the nation in female representation. A record number of women are serving in the 117th Congress, yet Louisiana is one of only 11 states with an all-male delegation. Former three-term U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, a Democrat, was the last woman to represent Louisiana in Congress before she was defeated by Republican U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy in 2014. Of course it s disappointing, Landrieu said in an interview with USA Today Network. When representation doesn t reflect the population, important perspectives aren t heard. Bill Cassidy said President Joe Biden has put a target on the oil and gas industry that could destroy thousands of jobs and create a recession both at home and in America. Last week Biden enacted a 60-day ban on new oil and gas drilling permits and leases for federal lands and waters, including the Gulf of Mexico where about 17% of the nation s crude is produced. He also halted a permit for construction of the Keystone XL pipeline that would run from Canada to Texas.
