Monday was Tax Day in the United States this year and the Patriotic Millionaires rich Americans who advocate for greater redistribution of wealth and power to working people in the U.S. are using the occasion to launch an offensive against the selfish billionaires, Wall Street tycoons, and CEOs who are trying to undermine progressive tax reforms that would require the country s wealthiest individuals and corporations to pay a fairer share. The nation s super-rich, said the group in a statement, are fighting tooth and nail to protect their own special tax breaks and misleading the American people about proposals to raise taxes on a tiny minority of high-net worth households and corporate giants and to bolster enforcement to ensure the collection of trillions of dollars in revenue currently lost to tax evasion. ....
After jumping into an icy pond to help his little sister, 10-year-old Benjamin Luckett died Sunday and his sister remains in the hospital in critical condition, said Interim Pastor Stacy Stilgenbauer of Leawood East Baptist Church. There were five kids, all pretty active, and they were all very loving, Stilgenbauer said. They re a nice family. Benjamin Luckett and some of his siblings were enjoying the winter weather Sunday morning when 6-year-old Abigail Luckett slipped into icy water near Millington, said Stilgenbauer, a church staff member who has known the family for almost a decade. At least three of the kids were down near the pond, my understanding is Abigail fell in and Benjamin jumped in to go after her, Stilgenbauer said. ....
She is awake and alert and seems to be doing a lot better, said Robertson. Chad Robertson is a longtime friend of the Luckett family. They first met at a Bartlett bowling lanes years ago.
