The August Wilson Monologue Competition announces the Chicago winners of the 2021 August Wilson Monologue Competition and the new "Designing August" competition.
The top two Chicago Monologue Competition winners will compete in the Nationals, to be held virtually on Monday, May 3 at 5:00pm Central. The National Competition will stream for free and is open to the public. Free tickets are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/august-wilson-monologue-competition-national-finals-tickets-152568818443.
In the Monologue category, the Chicago winners are Jonathan Westbrook from Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (first place), Bri'Yon Watts from Southland College Prep (second place) and Jadah Clay from Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (third place). The winners of the Design category were all students from Perspectives Charter School, including Kennedy Hardy for costume design (first place), Courtney Bilbro for set design (second place) and Ania Green for set design (third place). The winners received cash prizes and Jonathan Westbrook and Bri'Yon Watts will advance to the National August Wilson Monologue Competition.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater will welcome artists back to make theater again as dozens of actors, directors, designers, and technicians are busy creating upcoming productions, captured live in the Theater's performance spaces and streaming on-demand for audiences at home via the new Chicago ShakesSTREAM platform. Rehearsals and creative team meetings are underway for the line-up of virtual offerings beginning in March, including the I, Shakespeare series of solo shows I, Banquo and I, Cinna (the poet), a repertory ensemble cast performing both Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night as enhanced audio experiences, and We Are Out There, an imaginative digital prologue to the new musical It Came from Outer Space before the world premiere production next year. Additionally, a newly edited film of the 2017 production of Love's Labor's Lost, recorded by multiple cameras in front of a live audience in the Courtyard Theater, will be released on the platform.

Kin of drug war victims submit more proof against president


CRITICS and families of victims killed in the government’s bloody drug war have submitted more evidence in crimes against humanity complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte, which was filed before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
In its motion to admit third supplemental pleading, Rise Up for Life and for Rights complainants Dennise David, Maria Lozano, Mariel Sabangan, Normita Lopez, Purisima Dacumos and Christine Pascual asked outgoing ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to admit their additional evidence for the complaint against President Duterte.
The complainants were assisted by their legal counsel in the National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL).
