Eclipse operators hope for less turbulent times as AML takes over

By Murdo Morrison2021-02-26T18:00:00+00:00
The business began with a vow to disrupt a staid general aviation market by mass producing an entry-level jet for little more than the price of a piston aircraft.
Now, after more than 20 years of ambitious promises, missed targets, and run-ins with the bankruptcy courts, very-light jet (VLJ) pioneer Eclipse is again under new management, and operators of the Albuquerque-based manufacturer’s 280 or so in-service examples hope the turbulence is over.

In early December, the assets of Eclipse Aerospace were acquired by AML Global Eclipse, a business backed by Thailand-based British entrepreneur Christopher Harborne, whose portfolio includes the Singapore-based AML Global business aviation fuel agency. ....

Stop me if you have heard this before: A whole new class of aircraft will democratize and revolutionize seemingly everything, starting with air travel. Will it be advanced air mobility or maybe very light jets?
Aviation consultant Brian Foley recalls the latter while thinking of the former, since both are in the news recently. Disruptive paradigms are not a new threat to aviation, even this century, he notes.
The Eclipse very light jet (VLJ) was intended to make airborne commuting more of a reality before it became a $1.5 billion “smoking crater in the ground.” In November, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware authorized the sale of Eclipse Aerospace and the Eclipse Aircraft project to AML Global Eclipse, backed by British businessman Christopher Harborne, for $5.25 million. ....

Brexit stems from a civil war in capitalism – we are all just collateral damage

Brexit stems from a civil war in capitalism – we are all just collateral damage
Details
To one sort of capitalist, the insecurity and chaos that Brexit will bring is horrifying. To the other, it is highly profitable
This George Monbiot article was published back in November but more than a month later, and with an 11th hour EU trade deal just having been agreed that has people poring over the fine print, it remains a brilliant exposé of the forces using Brexit to turn the UK into a beachhead among European nations for disruption and deregulation.
And biotech is a significant part of the disruptive agenda. That’s why among the very first things Boris Johnson did on becoming Prime Minister was to declare his desire to “liberate” the UK “from anti-genetic modification rules”. It’s also why Michael Gove, a leading member of Johnson’s cabinet and the co-convenor of the Vote Leave campaign for Brexit, lost no time in explainin ....
