PLATTSBURGH â For months on end, north country officials have been pleading with Canada to consider allowing some cross-border traffic to resume, but they havenât had much success.
Now, with U.S. Sen. Majority Leader Charles Schumer on board, hopefully some progress can be made soon as summer is now well underway.
âFor the last two months, we havenât seen any progress and that is not acceptable,â Schumer said during a visit to Plattsburgh [July 6]. âIt is unacceptable to have no progress when summer is the season, more than any other, where we here in the north country and throughout New York state need the Canadians for our economic livelihood. And they want to come here.â ....

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. â If her congressional colleagues elevate her to a leadership post in the House GOP conference, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-New York, says she will forgo a gubernatorial run and instead stay focused on helping her party regain control of the House of Representatives in 2022.

PLATTSBURGH Though mass vaccination sites in Plattsburgh and Potsdam are not currently booking first-dose appointments as far out as those in more populated areas, they are not closing.
“We’re tracking supply and demand on a daily basis, and will continue to monitor those trends and make adjustments accordingly,” state Department of Health Public Information Officer Samantha Fuld told the Press-Republican.
“We continue to take a multi-pronged, multi-faceted approach to breaking down barriers to access and empowering all New Yorkers to confidently make the decision to get vaccinated.” ....

PLATTSBURGH Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Fiscal Year 2022 budget presentation left something to be desired for local officials.
In an hourlong speech, the governor focused largely on what New York state’s share of the $350 billion allocated for state and local government aid under President-elect Joe Biden’s American Rescue plan would turn out to be.
“There are two scenarios: If New York State gets $6 billion, we can kind of do X, but if it gets $15 billion, then we can do Y,” Clinton County Legislature Chair Mark Henry (R-Area 3) said.
“Until those scenarios are fleshed out, it’s very difficult to tell what this exactly means to counties and local governments specifically.” ....

PLATTSBURGH With the aim of making New York the first COVID-19-free state in the country, a series of vaccination centers opened statewide Monday, including one in Plattsburgh.
