Feb. 2 (UPI) Actor Hal Holbrook, who was best known for portraying writer Mark Twain in a one-man show, has died at the age of 95.
Holbrook s assistant Joyce Cohen confirmed to the New York Times that he died Monday at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Hal Holbrook has sadly died at the age of 95.
The legendary actor was best known for playing American novelist Mark Twain in the solo show
Mark Twain Tonight, which he first began performing in 1954. Not only did he perform in the show, he also wrote and directed the play as well.
Holbrook won the Tony Award for Best Actor for his work in 1966 and later returned to Broadway to reprise his role in 1977 and 2005. He appeared in the show more than 2,200 times over the years.

Actor Hal Holbrook was the voice in the shadows of a parking garage in All the President s Men, and a Tony Award winner for his depiction of Mark Twain. He died at his home in Beverly Hills on Jan. 23. He was 95.
In his long-running one-man show, Mark Twain Tonight, Holbrook brought the crotchety Southern humorist to life through acerbic monologues. Twain was the pen name under which Samuel Clemens created classic American characters like Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Holbrook performed the show for more than six decades, playing the role of Mark Twain longer than Clemens himself did. ....
