When Covid-19 hit Detroit, Bishop Edgar Vann had to close up his sanctuary, the venerable Second Ebenezer Church.
His duty became to use his voice to preach not only the word of God but also the gravity of the coronavirus.
Vann was enlisted to aid the city s Health Department in February to get hesitant residents, largely African American seniors, vaccinated. The virus, he said, has had a brutal impact on the city, and marrying public heath with worship felt natural.
I felt an obligation toward making sure that I would not only reach to my congregation but I would also reach beyond my congregation to a much broader influence that I have in the community, Vann, who has been a pastor at the church for 44 years, said in a phone interview. ....

‘Speaking of Nebraska’ Special Focuses on Vaccine Hesitancy
LINCOLN, Neb. (April 14, 2021) – As COVID-19 vaccinations continue across the state, data suggest there is hesitancy to receive the vaccine among Nebraskans, including some who are part of the state’s minority populations.
Nebraska medical experts will explore concerns and answer questions from viewers across the state in the special “Speaking of Nebraska: Vaccine Hesitancy,” filmed on location at Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Neb., at 7 p.m. CT, Wednesday, April 28.
The in-person taping event is open to the public, but seating is limited to ensure social distancing. Questions can be sent ahead of time to news@netnebraska.org or via the NET News Twitter and Facebook accounts. ....

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) California will begin sending 40% of all vaccine doses to the most vulnerable neighborhoods in the state to try to inoculate people most at risk from the coronavirus and get the state’s economy open more quickly, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday in the latest shake-up to the state s rules.
The doses will be spread among 400 ZIP codes where there are about 8 million people eligible for shots, said Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state s health and human services secretary. Many of the neighborhoods are in Los Angeles County and the central valley, which have had among the highest rates of infection. ....
