CLEVELAND â Is now the time for Ohio to start working toward raising its minimum wage from $8.80 to $15 an hour? A new report from Policy Matters Ohio indicates it needs to happen over the next five years.
The new 24-page report issued by Policy Matters Ohio researcher Michael Shields outlines how incrementally moving to $15-an-hour would benefit nearly 1.6 million Ohioans, and would inject $4.9 billion in annual earnings into Ohio.
âIf the policy also extended equal treatment to tipped workers, whose employers are allowed to pay them just half the minimum wage at $4.40, then the benefits raise by another 1.2 billion, to 6.1 billion in benefits for Ohio, Shields said. ....

Covid-19 vaccine wastage minimal in Central Visayas

ONLY 32 out of the 134,160 doses of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines received in Central Visayas were wasted, the Department of Health regional office (DOH 7) said.
DOH 7 spokesperson Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said they will make sure that no more vaccines would go to waste.
“We are looking forward to minimizing wastage. We are very much careful in handling the vaccines,” she said.
She said 24 AstraZeneca doses were spoiled because the vials had been opened but the intended recipients did not turn up at the vaccination area.
Each vial contains 10 doses. Once opened, the vaccine must be used in less than six hours. ....

Janet Yellen, the US Treasury secretary, has called on other countries to join Washington in setting a global minimum tax for companies as she vowed to reassert America s leadership in international economic policy.
Together we
can use a global minimum tax to make sure the global economy thrives based on a more level playing field in the taxation of multinational corporations, and spurs innovation, growth and prosperity, Yellen said in a speech to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs on Monday. ....

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Monday that she is working with G20 countries to agree on a global corporate minimum tax rate and pledged that restoring U.S. multilateral leadership would strengthen the global economy and advance U.S. interests.
In a speech ahead of her first International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings as Treasury chief, Yellen signaled stronger U.S. engagement on issues from climate change to human rights to tax base erosion. ....
