Nearly 550 cyclists from the Far North to Southland will descend on Rotorua this week for the Vantage Age Group Road National Championships.
They include riders from under-15 years to senior, Masters from 35 years to over 75 years, and para cyclists for the three-day competition, organised by Cycling New Zealand and supported by host club Cycling Rotorua. ....

Cullinan warns CAP reform has potential to destroy farm viability

The upcoming reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has the potential to destroy farm viability in Ireland, IFA president Tim Cullinan has warned.
Only around a third of all farms in Ireland are identified as viable by Teagasc.
Cullinan said the next CAP could doom these farms by taking payments from them to fund convergence, eco-schemes and applying more environmental restrictions.
“The reality is that direct payments from CAP are becoming less about supporting food production and farm incomes, and instead focusing more heavily on an ever-increasing environmental ambition,” he said.
These farmers cannot take any more cuts ....

When the Black Lives Matter and other social justice uprisings hit Chicago last year, the creators at Soft Cage Films were ready. The nonprofit film production company has been documenting social change, combating oppressive systems, and amplifying underrepresented voices of color in film through experimental techniques, artistic collaboration, and engaging storylines since its founding in 2012.
Before 2020, the team worked in person all over the city and produced a wide array of films including a musical inspired by real events of police torture at Homan Square and the community work to stop it, a drama about a revolutionary street artist s fight against capitalism, and a supernatural horror film that was the group ....
