WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden beckoned leaders of two of the world s largest pharmaceutical companies to the White House on Wednesday and credited his administration for the nearly unprecedented collaboration between the longtime rivals, Merck and Johnson & Johnson, now jointly producing acoronavirus vaccine.
But the breakthrough touted by Biden was first conceived by Trump officials last year, culminating in a Jan. 4 conference call arranged between Merck and Johnson & Johnson s senior leaders, said four Trump administration officials with knowledge of the efforts. ....

Damascus, (Prensa Latina) The United States continues its efforts to suffocate Syria economically and hinder the stabilization of the country, the Syrian-Russian intergovernmental bodies for the return of refugees announced on Friday.
According to a statement, Washington and its allies apply various methods of economic and political pressure on international bodies and organizations for them to ignore the dangerous consequences of the sanctions imposed on Syria.
The statement also described as false the US statements about the will to provide aid to the Syrian people, and denounced that the illegal sanctions completely suffocate its economy, aggravate the crisis of the displaced and increase their numbers. ....

Only 1 plaintiff remains in Jones Day pay-bias suit
Five of six former associates suing Jones Day for gender bias have dropped their claims. The move follows a decision by all the plaintiffs in December to drop class action pay-bias claims in the suit. The five plaintiffs said in a statement Thursday they dropped the class claims after receiving payroll data that did not support them. “We remain committed to advancing the goal of having greater equity in the legal profession and have now concluded our case against Jones Day,” the statement said. The statement did not indicate whether there was a settlement. The only remaining plaintiff is Katrina Henderson, who alleges pay discrimination, disparate treatment, a hostile work environment and racial bias. ISLAMABAD: Just ahead of the crucial election of the Senate chairman and deputy chairman, Prime Minister Imran Khan Wednesday held a meeting with leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) coalition parties.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal, MNA Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister for Housing Tariq Bashir Cheema, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak, Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, Information Minister Shibli Faraz and Planning Minister Asad Umar.
Current political situation in the country and coalition issues were discussed during the meeting, says a statement issued by PM Office.
