The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic all over the world, no doubt, is spreading fast, killing faster and easily transmittable compared to the first wave. The rate at which many Nigerians are contracting the virus is beyond imagination as numbers of affected persons has increased drastically within the shortest period. This indicates that people need to continue to take necessary precautions by observing the prescribed non-pharmaceutical guidelines to curtail the spread of the virus.
Statistics from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control as of December 17, 2020 showed a total confirmed cases of 76,206, 67,110 discharged and 1,201 deaths. As of January 11, 2021, the statistics showed that 101, 331 persons had been confirmed positive, 80, 491 discharged, while the total number of deaths increased to 1,361. This means about 30 per cent new cases have been confirmed since the outbreak of the second wave and about 1 ....

The management has, therefore, ordered that its Staff Club should be closed immediately.
Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, the Vice Chancellor, gave the directive.
“The directive is necessitated to curb the spread of COVID-19 as a result of a second wave of the pandemic”, the information read.
Ogundipe told The Nation that the closure was in compliance with the Lagos State Government’s instruction.
“It’s just to obey the directive from the government about the closure of club houses,” he said.
UNILAG is in a mourning mood after losing two Professors.
Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe, a former VC, and Duro Ajeyalemi, ex-Registrar, Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board, died within three days. ....

BREAKING: Another ex-UNILAG professor dies of COVID-19


Former Dean of Students’ Affairs, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Professor Durojaiye Ajeyalemi, is dead.
He died early Wednesday of suspected COVID-19 related complications at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba. Aged 70 years.
Ajeyalemi, a Professor of Curriculum Studies died five days after a former Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-obe, died, also of suspected coronavirus complications.
Sadly, both dons died a few months after their retirement from the same university. While Professor Ibidapo-Obe retired in July, Professor Ajeyalemi retired in November, both 2020.
Confirming Professor Ajeyalemi’s death to Nigerian Tribune on phone, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG (Academic and Research), Prof Oluwole Familoni, said “It is a truth that Professor Ajeyalemi has died early this morning,” Wednesday. ....
