Mecklenburg County s proposed budget for the new fiscal year includes $12 million for a variety of housing and homelessness programs. That includes $2.5 million to help the Salvation Army buy a hotel and convert it into a homeless shelter.
The money in County Manager Dena Diorio s proposed 2021-22 budget would match a $2.5 million grant
by the city of Charlotte last month. Diorio also wants to give the Salvation Army $512,000 for operating expenses at the new shelter.
Homelessness in our community is not something that can be solved by one organization or government entity. It is a collaborative effort, requiring us all to work together to solve our community’s most complicated challenges, the Salvation Army said in a statement. ....

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - Millions of dollars aimed at reducing racial disparities has been included in a nearly $2 billion recommended budget for Mecklenburg County for fiscal year 2022.
County Manager Dena R. Diorio presented her recommended budget for fiscal year 2022 Thursday to the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).
The $1.99-billion recommended budget is an increase of $96 million, or 5 percent, over the current fiscal year 2021 operating budget. ....

The New York Mets and Yankees will be allowed to fill sections of their stadiums to capacity with fans who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, effective May 19.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday that fans will be divided into vaccinated and non-vaccinated sections. Those sitting in the vaccinated section must show proof of full immunization status, which can be done via the state s recently implemented Excelsior Pass app.
Vaccinated fans still must wear masks, and children 15 and under who haven t been vaccinated may join their families.
In the unvaccinated sections, fan capacity will remain at 33 percent, with masks required, to allow for social distancing. ....

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired a video-link meeting about the construction of low-cost houses for the underprivileged strata. SACM Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, chief secretary, chairman P&D and secretary housing attended the meeting. The BOP president also attended the meeting through video-link.
Addressing the meeting, the CM said 133 sites have been identified for the prime minister s affordable housing scheme; 54 locations have been chosen for the first phase and work will be started on a priority basis at 32 sites, he added. PM Imran Khan will launch this project,
simultaneously, at 10 sites in Raiwind. The Punjab government has provided Rs3 billion for the development work and the house ....
