The White House on Friday released the first tranche of the complex s visitor logs after announcing it would resume releasing the records that the Trump administration withheld.
The first tranche names 400 visitors who visited the White House between noon on Inauguration Day and January 31, and includes seven individuals visiting the Oval Office. Among them are Office of the Director of National Intelligence Chief of Staff Charles Luftig and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin s wife, Charlene. ....

WASHINGTON – A majority of the Supreme Court voiced skepticism Tuesday over allowing certain low-level drug offenders to seek reduced sentences under bipartisan criminal justice legislation signed into law in 2018 by President Donald Trump. 
The appeal stirred a debate at the nation s highest court about Congress intent when the First Step Act permitted some offenders to seek shorter sentences but not others. The landmark law was intended to ease tough-on-crime policies that swelled prison populations and had a disproportionate impact on African-American communities. ....

FARMINGTON, W.Va. – For more than nine hours, Joe Manchin wouldn t budge and the fate of President Joe Biden s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill hung in the balance.
The Democratic senator from West Virginia opposed the bill s inclusion of a $400-per-week federal unemployment bonus, concerned raising it from $300 might entice some to live off government payments rather than seek work. So as the hours ticked by on Friday March 5, his Democratic and Republican colleagues took turns huddling with him.
