Physiology Professor Appointed to Journal's Editorial Leadership Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 9, 2021) The Journal of Lipid Research, a peer-reviewed journal published by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, has appointed six junior faculty members to its editorial leadership team. One of the appointments is Scott M. Gordon, assistant professor in the Department of Physiology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where his lab studies intestinal lipid absorption and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Gordon earned his Ph.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2012 and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in 2018. He joined the faculty of UK shortly thereafter. He will partner with Associate Editor W. Sean Davidson of the University of Cincinnati during his term at JLR. ....

Charles J. Kilo, MD, a former professor of clinical medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Lipid Research at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, died of pneumonia March 15, 2021, in Naples, Fla. He was 94.
Kilo and collaborators at the School of Medicine were among the first to demonstrate that diabetes complications are linked to the duration of the disease and the degree of blood sugar control. An early advocate for aggressive monitoring and control of blood glucose, Kilo challenged past treatment methods and the safety of blood glucose lowering agents. He pushed for regular measurement of glycated hemoglobin to track glucose levels in the blood. In subsequent years, measurement of so-called hemoglobin A1c became the standard in diabetes care. ....
