The Reif Arts Council is announcing a jam-packed line-up of entertainment as part of their summer/fall 2021 seasonânot an easy feat on the heels of a global pandemic. âOver the past year, we really made lemonade out of lemons. From drive-in and boat-in concerts and socially distanced music, to movies in the Reif parking lot, virtual shows, and several concerts at the outdoor IRA Civic Center pavilion,â said Reif Arts Council Marketing Director Paul M. Gregersen. âPeople have certainly taken notice and have appreciated our efforts to continue our mission of stimulating the arts in northern Minnesota. We maintained a schedule of 60-plus shows and educational programs throughout the pandemic, mostly flying by the seat of our pants. Our end goal has always been to formally announce a schedule of upcoming shows featuring local and national acts, and then execute that schedule like we did before the pandemic. Weâve finally made it to that point and are so happy to make this information public.â

Article content Electronic is a British duo that might be considered a supergroup. Bernard Sumner (formerly of Joy Division and New Order) takes lead vocals and contributes keyboards, programming and other digital wizardry. Johnny Marr (guitarist with the Smiths) plays guitar and bass. The duo also collaborated and co-wrote many of their songs with the Pet Shop Boys and Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk. As you might expect based on their backgrounds, Electronic’s music is a blend of dance, pop, rock and electronica. The tides of influence shift between songs, with some sounding like New Order and others having more of a Smiths vibe. The duo has released only three albums so far, with the most recent arriving back in 1999.

Earlier recordings of scat singing, from artists like Don Redman and Cliff Edwards, have also been found. Ella Fitzgerald was a master of scat singing, and rappers today still employ the practice on album tracks and use it as a mechanism for coming up with rhythms.
