JACKSONVILLE, Fla Students at Fort Caroline Middle School of the Visual and Performing Arts will transition to all-virtual learning Thursday through Monday due to a COVID-19 outbreak, Duval County Public Schools announced Wednesday.
All classes will take place on DCPS Duval HomeRoom platform, due to the impact of multiple cases of COVID-19, DCPS said in a news release. Food and technology will be distributed to students beginning Thursday morning according to the following schedule: ....

Fort Caroline Middle moving online due to ‘multiple cases of COVID-19′

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Citing “multiple cases of COVID-19,″ Fort Caroline Middle School is transitioning entirely to online learning through Duval HomeRoom beginning Thursday, according to a news release from the Duval County School District.
The school plans to stay online through Monday. Additionally, there will be no after school activities or other extracurricular events through Monday.
A message sent to families of students from Principal Chelvert Wellington states that the school will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. He said the Department of Health will contact students and staff personally if there is a need for someone to quarantine for a longer period. ....

Florida’s Department of Health reported 12 additional COVID-19 deaths in Clay County and one in Duval County on Thursday as the statewide death toll of the pandemic stopped just short of 30,000 lives.
Another 5,117 cases were detailed in the state report, including 286 across Northeast Florida’s six counties.
Since the pandemic began almost a year ago, the state has recorded 1,849,744 cases and 29,990 deaths, both Floridians and non-residents. The death count was 166 higher than the day before. | Read more

Jacksonville school goes virtual, citing 'multiple' COVID-19 cases


Fort Caroline Middle School students will start their day Thursday by logging onto their computers.
The school announced Wednesday that it would switch to online instruction until Monday, citing multiple COVID-19 cases. 
Because of the number of recent cases and the impact on our school, we will transition all students to online instruction through Duval HomeRoom,  Principal Chelvert Wellington told families. My team and I stand ready to help make this transition as smooth as possible.  
Duval County Public Schools has closed schools and transitioned them to temporary virtual instruction before. The district uses a 20 percent impact threshold to determine when the switch to online learning should happen. That threshold measures how many students and faculty are impacted by COVID-19 exposures not necessarily that 20 percent are COVID-19 positive.  ....
