COVID-19: Eastern Iowa cities' mask mandates still in effect

Updated 12:00 p.m. Monday: North Liberty and Coralville leaders joined Iowa City Monday morning in declaring that now is not the time to relax COVID-19 mitigation efforts and that, despite Gov. Reynolds actions Friday, the cities mask mandates remain in effect.
“The thoughtful efforts of community members and businesses have helped ease the holiday surge of hospitalizations and deaths. But even with this good news, it is premature to let up now,” North Liberty Mayor Terry Donahue said in a Monday morning news release.
Both North Liberty and Coralville have in place a health initiative and emergency proclamation, respectively, that tells residents to wear cloth face coverings when in public with similar stipulations and exemptions as Iowa City s mask mandate. Unlike Iowa City, they do not threaten a misdemeanor charge for uncompliant residents. ....

Ten years ago, the Iowa House of Representatives voted to amend the state s constitution to make same-sex marriage illegal again. As they debated the issue, a 19-year-old gave a speech on the House floor about how his sister and two mothers were no different than any other family in Iowa.

Dickey or Stewart: Voters decide who fills Miller-Meeks' Iowa Senate seat

With all counties reporting, Adrian Dickey kept Miller-Meeks seat in Republicans hands with 5,040 votes.
A Republican from Packwood won Tuesday s special election to fill a vacant state senate seat in southeast Iowa. Adrian Dickey will represent Senate District 41, filling a vacancy left by U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who was provisionally seated in Congress pending a challenge on her six-vote victory margin.
With all counties precincts reporting Tuesday night, Dickey kept Miller-Meeks seat in Republicans hands with 5,040 votes.
