Mumbai: Shares of drug makers and healthcare companies were among the top performers on Wednesday boosted by the Reserve Bank of India’s move to provide an on-tap liquidity window of Rs 50,000 crore for the sector to fight Covid-19. Analysts said the announcement could push investors to raise their stakes in defensive sectors like pharma and technology as the second wave of the pandemic has reduced their appetite for cyclicals.
The Nifty Pharma index rallied 4 per cent on Wednesday as against the 1 per cent gains in the Nifty.
Sun Pharma, Lupin, Cadila Healthcare, Aurobindo and Torrent Pharma among others rallied more than 5 per cent.

Sensex nosedives to over 1,400 points; rising COVID cases to impact markets through week

The markets will continue with the downward trend today and possibly this week with the rising number of COVID cases in Maharashtra and also the possiblility of a second lockdown, according to stock market experts.
The 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex was trading 1,189.83 points lower at 47,642.20, and the broader NSE Nifty was down 340.60 points at 14,277.25.Foreign institutional investors were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 437.51 crore on Friday, according to exchange data.

torrent power: Torrent Power may be set for 20%+ upmove, say analysts

Torrent Power appears to be on the brink of a major breakout that could see it rise by up to 20% in the short term, technical analysts say.
Shares of Torrent have risen only 2% in the past three months compared with 22% jump by BSE Power index and is attractively valued at 12 times trailing 12-month earnings.
“Price has staged a breakout of its around two-month-long consolidation range and double bottom formation,” said Sandeep Porwal, technical analyst, Ashika Stock Broking. “The sustenance above its short-long term averages of 20 and 200 simple moving average augurs well for a rally up to ₹370 and ₹400 with key support placed at ₹316.”
