Local fabric artist Jeanne Marklin is being featured in Quilt National 21, The Best in Contemporary Quilts, a juried, biennial exhibition, opening Memorial Day weekend at The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, Ohio. Dairy Barn Arts Center to hold Quilt National Dairy Barn Arts Center The Dairy Barn Arts Center is proud to announce the opening of “Quilt National ‘21: The Best in Contemporary Quilts.” Quilt National is a juried, biennial exhibition that features new artworks by 84 artists from 14 countries. The exhibition will be on view May 29 to Sept. 6 and will feature local artist Nancy Crasco, of Brighton. A BFA graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Crasco earned a master’s degree at Lesley University and has been working in fiber since 1968, actively exhibiting her work nationally and internationally since 1975. Her work is often based on the intricacies of nature, and the effects that modern society has on the ecology of the earth. Her imagery is achieved through the use of various printing processes, including linoleum, gelatin plate, and a photocopier, in combination with stitching and embroidery. WASHINGTON, DC .-The Smithsonian American Art Museum has received an extraordinary gift of masterpiece Amish quilts from the collection of Faith and Stephen Brown. The group of quilts is the largest and most significant collection of Amish quilts to enter any major art museums permanent collection. The quilts were made between the 1880s and 1940s and embody the astonishing design innovation and stitching skills of Amish women from communities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states. An initial group of approximately 40 donated quilts will be featured in an upcoming exhibition organized by the museum, scheduled for March 15, 2024 through Sept. 2, 2024.
