Community Gun Buyback in Canton collects 129 guns


CANTON – Organizers of the Community Gun Buyback started collecting weapons a half-hour early when vehicles lined up Saturday morning outside the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
The event  hosted by the Canton Police Department, Stark County Prosecutor s Office and several other community agencies also ended early about noon. A total of 129 unwanted guns were collected and will be destroyed, according to Christian Ball, director of public relations and community initiatives at the Prosecutor s Office.
This likely won t be the last one that we hold, she said.
It was the first gun buyback in Canton since the 1990s. People who volunteered to turn in guns were given a $100 gift card.  ....

Stark County's Community Gun Buyback on May 15 targets unwanted guns


A buyback event has not occurred in the Canton area since the 1990s. 
Police Chief Jack Angelo has read the conspiracy posts on social media and none of them are true.
There is nothing dark or shadowy about this (event), he said.
