Mucci Accolades Well Deserved Mar 12, 2021 When former Steubenville Mayor Domenick Mucci Jr. brought the gavel down on his final City Council meeting, the curtain fell on a career of political involvement that spanned nearly 40 years. Members of council at the time, January 2018, never formally had the chance to thank him for his service, as they were working to help residents and businesses navigate through a crisis that left a large portion of the downtown without water. It’s appropriate, then, that the current City Council honored Mucci not just once, but twice during the last several weeks. The first came when council voted to rename Steele Avenue — the location of his family’s longtime business — Mucci Way; the second happened when members on Feb. 23 presented him with a resolution recognizing his accomplishments.
Mar 6, 2021 When former Steubenville Mayor Domenick Mucci Jr. brought the gavel down on his final City Council meeting, the curtain fell on a career of political involvement that spanned nearly 40 years. Members of council at the time, January 2018, never formally had the chance to thank him for his service to the city and numerous community organizations — they were tied up trying to help residents and businesses navigate through a crisis that left a large portion of the downtown without water for many days. It’s appropriate, then, that the current City Council recently honored Mucci not just once, but twice during the last several weeks. The first came when council voted to rename Steele Avenue, the location of his family’s longtime business, Mucci Way, and the second happened when members on Feb. 23 presented him with a resolution recognizing his accomplishments.
Renovation of dorm space in Solon’s Fire Station 1 completed Ed Wittenberg, cleveland.com SOLON, Ohio – Renovation of the dormitory space at the city’s Fire Station 1 has been completed, Fire Chief Mark Vedder told City Council Monday (Feb. 1). After three months of construction, firefighters have moved back into the dorm area, Vedder said. The renovation was funded with money from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Council passed legislation in October accepting the proposal of Regency Construction Services of Brook Park for the architectural design and construction services to renovate the dorm space. The renovation was proposed due to the coronavirus pandemic and the potential spread of the virus through open spaces, the ordinance stated.

The CIC has acted as the city's agent for the sale. The total cost for the property, which was sold at auction in November, was $467,500. Jan 2, 2021 ORCHID: To the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County for hiring a community support specialist who will help patrons with needs in social service and mental health areas. Jim Young will help people with needs greater than library services; he will link patrons to help with homelessness, addiction, depression and more, according to library Executive Director Aimee Fifarek. Patrons who would like to talk with Young can contact the library at 330-744-8636 or talk with a librarian, who will connect them. ORCHID: To the American Red Cross of Greater Akron and the Mahoning Valley, which includes the former local Lake to River Chapter in Liberty, for finding a centralized location to best serve residents in its six-county region. The Red Cross is moving its office from Belmont Avenue in Liberty to Canfield Niles Road in Austintown on Monday. There will be no disruption in services. Last year, the local Red Cross that served Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties was renamed and expanded to include Portage, Medina and Summit counties. The move to Austintown matches the mission of the realignment — to better serve the Red Cross’ mission and local communities.
