Concord residents call for Councilman King's resignation

Victoria Young
A few Concord residents spoke at Thursday’s City Council meeting and called for the resignation of a council member.
During the public comment period, two residents, Trenton and Courtney Whalen, read a letter sent to the council describing a verbal confrontation between Councilman Brian King and a parent at R. Brown McAllister STEM Elementary School.
The letter, which Trenton Whalen said was written and reviewed by at least 12 District 2 residents, stated that on March 30, King got out of his car during carpool pick up and walked toward the school. Witnesses stated that King recognized a female parent and started a verbal confrontation with her, mentioning some social media posts she made about him. The woman tried to leave the conversation, witnesses said. They also said King was exhibiting aggressive and threatening behavior. The school cross guard became concerned and called over a resource officer. Once the officer approached King, t ....

Fredericksburg area task force working on a plan to help inmates re-enter society

Area leaders hope to implement a plan this summer that will help recently released inmates and parolees successfully reenter society and avoid re-incarceration.
The Criminal Justice Reform task force for Planning District 16—which includes Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline and King George—was assembled in the fall and has been meeting monthly since November.
President Joe Biden on March 31 signed a proclamation declaring April “Second Chance Month” and calling for a focus on “prevention, reentry, and social support, rather than incarceration.”
“After incarcerated individuals serve their time, they should have the opportunity to fully reintegrate into society. It benefits not just those individuals but all of society, and it is the best strategy to reduce recidivism,” the president’s proclamation reads. ....

'Not OK Boomers" raise their objections | Columnists

My reading last week included a long article on why Boomers are not OK.
You might remember the expression “OK, Boomer” that caught on a couple of years back. It was not a compliment.
It was a condescending way of saying, “sure, Boomer, keep your outdated way of looking at things.”
I’m a Boomer myself, so I take a keen interest in how people perceive us.
Two authors debating in the article took opposite points of view. One said Boomers are too liberal, and the other said we’re too conservative.
One of them concluded that Boomers are “an incredibly politically polarized generation.” She said we’re “really split politically down the middle between liberals and conservatives.” ....
