Biden's Keystone Pipeline Plan Is a Bad Sign for Everything Else by Young Voices Contributors

The Trump administration permitted the construction in 2017 and the project continued. However, with the Trump exit, the continued project development did not stand to last. As of Wednesday, his first day in office, President Biden canceled permits for the Keystone XL pipeline. This action poses a new question: why?
One could speculate it is due to environmental or climate concerns, but when you look at the data that narrative doesn’t add up. Pipelines can drastically reduce the amount of CO2 emissions needed to transport fuel. According to a study by the University of Alberta, pipeline transportation of large amounts of crude oil can reduce emissions by 61 to 77 percent less than by rail. Furthermore, TC Energy Corporation, the company that owns the pipeline, has pledged to power operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2030. ....

Why Solar and Wind Energy Can't Save Us :: The Market Oracle ::

Recently, British Petroleum (BP) went public in declaring that “peak oil demand” was reached in 2019. According to the oil major’s 2020 outlook, global oil demand will not regain levels reached last year, and that demand could soon fall rapidly, due to stronger climate action by countries, by at least 10% over the next 10 years, and up to 50% by 2040.
Demand for the fossil fuel has doubled over the past 50 years, reaching around 100 million barrels of oil per day (bopd) in 2019.
While earlier editions of BP’s outlook stated that global demand would continue rising steadily, peaking in the mid-2030s, the latest version sees the decline as much more dramatic, with peak demand already reached in 2019, and either slowing down or plateauing over the next three decades. ....

The long-awaited Ministerial Performance Agreements for South African cabinet ministers were published last week – more than a year after Cyril Ramaphosa promised them in his first State of the Nation Address in 2019. Despite the delay, the finalisation of these agreements is to be welcomed, as it permits the ministers to be held accountable for their work, and (hopefully!) removed from office for poor performance or non-delivery.
In the agreement the President signed with Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, however, the minister commits to procuring 2500MW of nuclear energy by 2024. Not only is this beyond the scope the cabinet agreed to in the Integrated Resource Plan 2019 (South Africa’s electricity roadmap), it is beyond the capability of South Africa to implement or manage in the short to medium term. The IRP notes in Decision 8 to “Commence preparations for a nuclear build programme to the extent of 2500 MW at a pace and scale that the count ....
