EAST BAY Pre-pandemic, more than 75,000 people a day commuted from Alameda or Contra Costa counties to Santa Clara County for work.
Each one of them is now eligible to get a coronavirus vaccine there, and the Santa Clara County Health System just released thousands of new appointments for the week, including 10,000 for the weekend.
Santa Clara County is working on getting even more evening and weekend appointments to accommodate people who work during the day.

The largest COVID-19 vaccination site in the state is opening at Levi s Stadium in Santa Clara early next week, officials said Friday.
Santa Clara County and the San Francisco 49ers have partnered to open the site with the capacity to vaccinate 5,000 county residents per day.
As vaccine supply increases, plans are to vaccinate up to 15,000 people per day at the site. ....

Residents at Channing House, a senior independent living and long-term care center, say vaccines are the first step in bringing back a sense of normalcy.
Few health care providers are going that far, however. Kaiser, which previously announced it was making the vaccines available to a limited number of people 65 years and older, has now scaled back to those who are age 75 and older, Smith said.
County leaders said they will soon be opening a mass-vaccination center at the Mountain View Community Center, which will soon be taking appointments, but once again, it isn t open to patients with primary care physicians.
