University of Arkansas students are once again calling on school leadership to remove the names and images of Arkansas U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright and former Gov. Charles Hillman Brough from campus. The Black Student Caucus and other student organizers held an anti-racism march this weekend to bring attention to what they say is inaction from university administration. In August 2020, the U of A announced the formation of a committee that will make a recommendation on the future of the Fulbright and Brough names on campus.

ASG Executive Candidates Hear from Student Body in 2021 Town Hall Debate

Candidates for Associated Student Government executive positions took questions from students Friday night in the third and final debate of the 2021 election, prompting conversations about inclusivity, student safety and accountability of campus leaders.
The presidential, vice-presidential, treasurer and secretary candidates on the Vision and Make it Matter tickets shared the stage in a town-hall-style forum moderated by Honors College Dean Lynda Coon. To accommodate COVID-19 restrictions, the event was live-streamed to a virtual crowd, and students were asked to submit questions through Instagram and Twitter.

On September 27, 1919, a mob of at least 10,000 white people stormed the courthouse in Omaha, Nebraska, demanding the sheriff turn over Will Brown, a 40-year-old Black man. They raided the building, scaled walls and smashed windows. When the mob’s initial demands were refused, they set fire to the courthouse, turning it into a seething furnace.
