Marine-focused company invests $3.7 million in Mount Pleasant expansion

A marine signage manufacturing and installation company from the Netherlands is expanding its operations in Charleston County with a $3.7 million investment, that could add 43 jobs to the region.
Bourne Group will base its headquarters in Mount Pleasant at 301 Ports Authority Drive, relocating from its previous space in North Charleston’s Navy Yard, a Charleston County Economic Development news release said.
Founded in 2007, Bourne Group has an international presence and roots in the maritime industry. The company’s portfolio includes maritime safety signs and service for cruise and commerce shipping industries.
Bourne Group Owner Patrick McNulty said the many people want to live in the Lowcountry, and the pandemic seems to have accelerated this trend. ....

(AFP) - Images purporting to show former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton detained in Guantanamo Bay have been widely shared by social media users. But the images have been doctored to digitally insert Clinton into unrelated photos.
No credible news reports indicate she was detained at Guantanamo Bay as of May 3, 2021.
One image was shared on Facebook on April 23, 2021.
The image is overlaid with a combination of English and Korean-language text that reads: “Nice brand Hillary! Hillary tied up in chains, wearing a Guantanamo prison uniform.” ....

Historic Charleston Greek Revival Once Occupied By JFK Lists For $4.4M


A nineteenth-century Greek Revival in the heart of downtown Charleston, South Carolina, that was once reportedly the temporary home of John F. Kennedy has listed for $4.4 million. The home is being represented by Mary Lou Wertz of Maison Real Estate.
The property at 48 South Battery was originally built in 1846 for James Macbeth, who was the city’s mayor during the Civil War. Decades later, it became the first home of the Charleston Day School, between 1937 and 1939.
Complete with three-and-a-half stories and 14-foot ceilings, the home also boasts Waterford crystal chandeliers and a stone courtyard with an outdoor kitchen.
