Eboni Bugg is director of programs for the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. “This particular project really was instigated by the urgency of the global pandemic, recognizing that our current system of grouped shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness presented a public health risk even beyond the public health risks associated with homelessness itself.”
So the foundation offered the largest grant in its history $4.25 million – to the Piedmont Housing Alliance which bought an old Red Carpet Inn on the city’s busy Route 29 where Bugg says studio apartments will be offered.
A coalition of non-profits in Charlottesville plans to build on the site of an old hotel, gradually replacing its rooms with 140 apartments for people experiencing homelessness. ....

Community Connection: Knight's Gambit Vineyard Hosts the Charlottesville Marathon

Part of Knight’s Gambit Vineyard’s mission as a local business is to give back to the Charlottesville community. In 2007, in honor of Alexandra Summers, who passed away from brain cancer, they founded the Alexandra Summers Fund through the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation. They’ve have been able to raise funds for organizations such as the Free Clinic, The Southern Environmental Law Center and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
In conjunction with Bad to the Bones Sports, they’re hosting the Charlottesville Marathon on Saturday, April 10th. They welcome you to join them for a day of running with the Blue Ridge in view, live music and food trucks with proceeds from the fundraiser and wine sales going to Alex’s Fund. ....
