There are currently no other bids that have got board approval for the IOC to consider.
It comes as tens of thousands of people have signed a petition urging the Australian Border Force to stop the premier from attending the Tokyo Olympics.
The petition, started by an account called ‘Stranded Australians’ had over 34,000 signatures as of 3pm on Tuesday and was growing by the minute.
It argues Ms Palaszczuk “should not be allowed to steal a precious hotel quarantine space from a more deserving stranded Australian trying to return home.”

In another apparent blow to the democracy movement in Hong Kong, media tycoon Jimmy Lai, 73, was sentenced Friday to 14 months in prison. The pro-democracy advocate was sentenced alongside other leading activists for their role in organizing and participating in a 2019 anti-government protest.
At the same time in Hong Kong, former lawmaker Martin Lee, 82, and three others had their sentences suspended age and other factors were taken into consideration. ....

Stranded tourists from Australia and New Zealand boarded a chartered flight out of Nepal Wednesday. The Nepal Airlines flight had 222 Australians and 28 New Zealand nationals and permanent residents.
Pieter den Heten left Australia for work in Germany before the pandemic shut things down and was then unable to return. That was in September of 2019.
Den Heten became the face of an Amnesty International campaign on behalf of stranded Australians. He testified as a witness for an Australian Senate Committee hearing. Lawmakers said they’d have everyone back by Christmas, but that didn’t happen. ....
