Special event G20/UNEP – Resilient, Smart and Sustainable Cities: The Power of Nature-based Solutions April 28th, 2021 The event highlighted the multiple benefits of implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in cities, and particularly their contribution to building resilience to climate change while contributing to climate mitigation. A wealth of urban experiments is underway across G20 countries, demonstrating that NbS – adapted to local circumstances – can work in all contexts. To multiply positive experiences, further quantification of the range of benefits, and increasing progress monitoring, are needed, as well as the integration of NbS in planning processes and technical standards for infrastructure, the development of innovative business and finance models and smooth multi-level governance.

The Irish fishing industry stands to lose stocks worth an estimated £37million-a-year by 2026 due to a 15 percent reduction in fish quotas as a result of the Brexit deal. Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine since September 2020, Charlie McConalogue, warned the effects of the Brexit deal "are immediate, with 60 percent of those reductions to take effect from April". Sean O’Donoghue, chief executive of Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation, said the Irish fishing industry is “not interested” in compensation and simply wants some of its fish back.
