Seven members have been elected to Syracuse University’s Board of Trustees, according to an SU news release on Monday.
All of the newly elected members are alumni of the university or are connected to the university through family or service. They are all recognized leaders in their respective fields, from business to communications.
“[The new members] bring both skills and wisdom that will help guide the board through the challenges facing higher education in these unprecedented times,” said Kathleen Walters, the chair of the board. ....

A $2 million grant from New York state will fund several infrastructure projects in Syracuse University’s Center for Science and Technology.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced in March that New York would award $57.2 million in grants for infrastructure projects at 35 colleges and universities across the state. The funds are intended to help colleges rebuild their infrastructure amid the pandemic, according to a press release. ....

There are two worlds in Angel Gonzalez’s city.
In one, new buildings rise from freshly paved asphalt, a collection of luxury student apartment complexes attracted to the money that flows from the whiter, wealthier enclaves near Syracuse University’s campus. Here, the university’s student population stretches toward the city’s center, where the highest estimated concentration of 19 to 24-year-old Syracuse residents live.
In the other world, development in mostly family-occupied neighborhoods, such as Gonzalez’s in the city’s Westside, has stagnated due to limited economic and housing opportunities. ....
