April 7, 2021 While the election saw fresh faces to Galesburg’s governing body, some area communities saw a mix of change and the same. In a three-way race for Fourth Ward Alderman, John Vanvleet narrowly defeated Kevin Ferry and Chad Braatz. Ferry was just seven votes shy of defeating Vanvleet. ....
Jeff Rankin: Before automatic washers, steam laundries relieved drudgery By Jeff Rankin The Rankin File Throughout much of the 19th century, most laundry was done by hand in a laborious process that often stretched over three days. Lipes, Davies to square off in Monmouth mayor race By Jane Carlson For the Review Atlas MONMOUTH Monmouth voters will decide between two candidates in the April consolidated election incumbent Rod Davies and challenger Justin Lipes. Both candidates filed nominating petitions with the city clerk by Monday’s deadline for the April 6 election. Lipes, owner of The Tac Shack and a member of the Illinois Army National Guard, said his mission is to enhance the quality of life for all Monmouth citizens. “I pledge to earn the trust of our residents and work in partnership to foster community pride while developing a strong, diversified economy, and planning for the future while preserving and enriching the natural beauty of our city’s historical elegance,” Lipes said. ....
