Decade of documents reveals evolution of light rail plans

Reports compiled over more than a decade show the evolution of a controversial public transport proposal currently up for community comment.

Brisbane s bid to host the 2032 Olympic Games will have no bearing on the Sunshine Coast s mass transit plans, according to the council.
Options being considered range from bus network upgrades to a quality busy corridor and bus rapid transit, trackless trams and the most controversial being the light rail from Maroochydore to Caloundra.
A planned light rail route connecting the Sunshine Coast has been referenced in council and state government documents for several years, including in a 2019 feasibility study into Queensland s Olympic Games bid.
The study was released by the SEQ Office of Mayors and listed the Sunshine Coast s future light rail network as being critical in delivering the event. ....

OPINION
I would like to compliment the Noosa Council, which unlike the egotistical Sunshine Coast Council, is not fixated on destroying our Sunshine Coast s cherished lifestyle by competing with the Gold Coast, using a proposed outdated light rail transport systems idea to justify its high-rise infill agenda to raise revenue.
Like most Sunshine Coast residents, we elected to settle here for the wonderful lifestyle it has to offer which now is under constant threat by our (public servant) Mayor and his like-minded public servant cohorts.
Firstly, I am not against light rail and I am not against mass transit as we already have a mass transit system … called buses. ....
