With the 700-metre granite dome of the Stawamus Chief as a backdrop, my friend, Ken, and I climbed on our bikes in Squamish and began pedalling north. Our destination was Whistler, an uphill trek of some 80km that we hoped to cover in two days.

RMOW decides against asphalt appeal

Whistler council has voted against appealing the recent Supreme Court decision stating that Whistler Aggregate's asphalt plant in Cheakamus Crossing is permitted to operate there. In a news release sent out this morning (Feb. 28), it was revealed that the RMOW will instead seek to work with the asphalt plant's operator, Frank Silveri, to consider improvements that would "advance the quality of life for residents in the short term and seek a longer-term solution that meets the requirements of all parties."

Like many, Mancer said she wants to highlight the fact that food doesn't come from plastic bags. This push for food security, and heightened awareness about where food comes from, has increased the popularity of urban agriculture in communities all over North America - and Whistler is no exception.
"Whistler residents should be concerned about where their food comes from and should understand the resources and time necessary to grow food," said Mancer. "Many younger generations have never grown their own food and it's important to make the connection and taste the difference between locally grown organic produce versus genetically modified varieties flown in from halfway around the world.
