Biden's Ohio town hall: President touts infrastructure, COVID vaccines


Chief among them: The long-vexed Brent Spence Bridge between Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

The president stopped in Cincinnati Wednesday  his third visit to Ohio this year  to tour the IBEW/NECA Electrical Training Center and participate in a town hall hosted by CNN s Don Lemon. The trip came as Biden works with a bipartisan group of senators, including Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, to push a $1.2 trillion infrastructure package through Congress.
Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked an effort to start debate on the bipartisan proposal, but Biden said he expects the Senate to proceed Monday after a group of GOP senators committed to moving forward. He called Portman a decent, honorable man and pledged that lawmakers would eventually reach an agreement.  ....

WASHINGTON – Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked the start of formal debate on bipartisan infrastructure legislation, a core part of President Joe Biden’s economic plan, because the bill text and cost weren’t available as negotiations continued.
The 51-49 vote against beginning debate, which needed to clear a 60-vote threshold to succeed, came after a series of late-night negotiations. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., changed his vote to help defeat the measure so he could be on the prevailing side to call it up for another vote in the future. Senators continue to haggle over details on transit and how to pay for the entire package. ....
