April 9th is National Former POW Recognition Day.
It is the day in 1942 that Major General Edward P. King Jr. surrendered the Bataan Peninsula, Philippines – against General Douglas MacArthur’s orders – and 78,000 troops (66,000 Filipinos and 12,000 Americans), the largest contingent of U.S. soldiers ever to surrender.
It is alo the start of the 85-mile Bataan Death March, the forced march from the tip of Bataan (for most) and a hellacious box car train trip followed by another forced march to a makeshift POW camp at O’Donnell that had only one spigot for water. Thousands of American and Filipino troops died. ....

With just six days left in the General Assembly s short, odd-year session, many health-related bills remain on the table, and only a few have become law. Here s a roundup of health-related legislation.
Abortion: The first health-related bill to become law this year was Senate Bill 9, sponsored by Sen. Whitney Westerfield, R-Crofton, which requires medical providers to give “medically appropriate and reasonable life-saving and life-sustaining medical care and treatment to preserve the life and health of a born-alive infant,” including after a failed abortion. It also requires them to give any “nourishment, medical care, medical treatment and surgical care that is medically appropriate.” Go ....
