Warner admires nation's film, sound, TV trove in Culpeper

It took a few tries to make it happen, but Sen. Mark Warner visited one of the wonders of the Western world late last week: the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center of the Library of Congress—aka, its Packard Campus in Culpeper County.
Virginia’s senior U.S. senator toured the 415,000-square-foot complex, guardian of countless American cultural treasures, for nearly an hour.
Just minutes into his whirlwind tour, Warner responded with a big “wow!” when told that philanthropist David Woodley Packard’s donation of the custom-built facility stands as history’s second-biggest private gift to the federal government, after the Smithsonian Institution. (It is also the largest-ever private gift to the U.S. legislative branch.) ....

Senator Warnock says he climbed on farm equipment and dined outside, but mostly listened and got a one-day course on Georgia agriculture from numerous farm stakeholder organizations.
The ag tour allowed a wide array of producers to share information about their crops and voice concerns about issues they face.

CAL THOMAS: Lost liberties and the Biden administration

If one can say the pandemic has had any positive side effect, it has been to help us focus on what the loss of liberties looks like. Such losses do not occur immediately but erode over time as people become increasingly comfortable with government claiming to know what is best for us.
The Biden administration is proceeding on a downward spiral that has ended in lost liberties in nations of the past by seizing increasing amounts of power for itself through a slew of executive orders, without the consent of the people, or Congress.
When announcing his gun control executive orders last week, President Biden referenced the Second Amendment and the right to keep and bear arms. He claimed his orders do not infringe on that right, but added, No amendment is absolute. That is concerning. ....
