Springfield Art Museum project to improve parking lot, creek

In 2018, Springfield Art Museum revealed a 30-year master plan to bring the museum campus into the 22nd century, at a cost that could ultimately top $20 million.
Three years and a pandemic later, officials running the taxpayer-owned trove of some 10,000 art objects are taking the first concrete steps toward making the vision a reality. The master plan calls for four phases of improvements to the museum s building and grounds in Phelps Grove Park, and it would integrate the campus into the Ozark Greenway trail system, which includes a stretch in nearby Fassnight Park. 
I like to think it s connecting the Art Museum to Wonders of Wildlife and downtown, the museum s director, Nick Nelson, told the News-Leader Friday, ahead of a City Council vote scheduled for Tuesday on whether the museum can accept a key grant that will help kick off phase one of the project, the renovation of the museum grounds.  ....

Missouri progressives to make case for voting reform at demonstrations

A coalition of Missouri nonpartisan voter-issues groups and progressives plans to make their case for voting reform this weekend.
On Saturday, they plan coordinated public demonstrations in five Missouri cities: Springfield, St. Louis, Kansas City, Jefferson City and Cape Girardeau. 
Denise Lieberman, a civil-rights attorney with Missouri Voter Protection Coalition, said in a call from St. Louis on Friday morning that MVPC and roughly 10 Springfield-area partners are working in concert with similar groups in more than 150 U.S. cities, invoking the memory of civil rights hero John Lewis to further their cause.
Lieberman told the News-Leader, Missouri lawmakers are heading into their final week of the (legislative) session and are poised to potentially vote on several restrictive voting proposals that are ready for a vote, including strict photo ID legislation and legislation that shackles the citizen ballot initiative process and makes it difficul ....
