Richard Medley


Richard Medley, 89, of Sevierville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully Friday, July 2, 2021. He was originally from Chicago, Illinois, and graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a Degree in Electrical Engineering. He designed numerous light fixtures for sports parks and other venues.
He met the love of his life, Charlotte, in Chicago and married in 1953. He was the world’s greatest Dad to two children, beloved Grampy to two grandchildren and made numerous lifelong friends while living in Illinois and relocations to Pennsylvania and New York. He loved boating and enjoyed extensive travelling throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Europe and Tahiti before retiring to his beloved Smoky Mountains in 1997. After retirement he achieved his lifelong dreams cruising to additional countries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Though he is gone from sight, he is now home with God. ....

Soaky Mountain celebrates grand opening


SEVIERVILLE
A grand opening one year in the making took place at Soaky Mountain Waterpark on Friday, which also included $6,000 in donations to local charities.
The attraction was open in 2020 with reduced hours and limited capacity because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but has opened for this season without those restrictions in place.
“We had the 2020 season, but it wasn’t what we thought it would be obviously because of the pandemic and we reduced our capacity and we didn’t open on time. We were three weeks later than we had planned, but that was because of a lot of the stuff going on,” said Joe Eck, chief operating officer of Wilderness Resort and Waterparks. ....

Soaky Mountain Waterpark officials, together with state and local tourism officials, will gather on June 4 at 9 a.m. to celebrate the official grand opening of the 50-acre waterpark, 175 Gists Creek Road in Sevierville. 
According to Dave Andrews, general manager of Soaky Mountain Waterpark, “We are so thrilled to be finally celebrating our grand opening with our fellow tourism industry partners on June 4. 
“2020 was truly a challenging year for us. First, we had to get our construction completed while the country was shut down due to the pandemic and then we were only able to be at reduced capacity levels as a safety precaution due to COVID-19. But we made it and now it is time to celebrate. ....

BlueCross Foundation providing $250,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation is giving $250,000 to Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee to help meet the needs of community members affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This gift provides additional support following the $500,000 the foundation awarded to Second Harvest in March.
Food banks across the state have been facing increased demand since the onset of the
pandemic, as many Tennesseans turn to them for support. While many organizations have been able to sustain operations throughout 2020, donations are leveling off and the beginning of 2021 remains uncertain. ....
