The This year the Grandpa Gang has increased donations to area community organizations following record attendance during the 2020 holiday event, with nearly $65,000 was distributed to 53 organizations. Christner, Haegele honored by Rotary The Telegraph FacebookTwitterEmail 5of5 ALTON Alyson Haegele and Bryce Christner of Alton High School have been named the Students of the Month for April by the Alton Godfrey Rotary Club. Haegele, the daughter of Scott and Holly Haegele of Godfrey, is a member of the Alton High School National Honor Society. She currently has a 4.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, which places her in the top 10 percent of the senior class. She has been enrolled in several honors and dual credit classes during her time at AHS. She is the starting pitcher for the softball team and was a cheerleader for the football season during her junior and senior seasons. As a freshman, she also played volleyball. Additionally, she has been a member of the Biology Club, the Physics Club and the Spanish Club. ....
Kenneth N. Edelman passed away peacefully Sunday, March 28, 2021 from natural causes. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1934 to Marian Anette Crooks and Harry R. Edelman II. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Bob and Bud. Ken attended Edgewood High School, and University of Pittsburgh before entering Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. The summer after high school he and his buddies drove around the country seeing the sights. He married Sandra Lee Wood in 1959 and raised three boys in Bradford, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, West Lafayette, IN and Alton, IL. Rich, Mark and Paul share their father’s sense of humor and love of adventure. ....

Rachelle Crowe, D-Glen Carbon, during February, hosted a hygiene product drive for Oasis Women’s Center in Alton. Oasis Women’s Center provides shelter and supportive services for victims of domestic violence. Residents dropped off items at four area locations. “Thanks to donations from community members, victims of domestic violence and their children residing at Oasis Women’s Center will have a new supply of essential hygiene products,” Crowe said. Crowe donated the items to Oasis Women’s Center on March 1 in honor of the start to Women’s History Month. ....
