Final quarter of 2020 sees massive spike in ransomware

Final quarter of 2020 sees massive spike in ransomware
The last quarter of 2020 saw a 10,000 percent increase in ransomware activity according to a new report from managed security services provider Nuspire.
The company's latest Year in Review Threat Landscape Report -- sourced from its 90 billion traffic logs -- outlines new cybercriminal activity and tactics, techniques and procedures.

BEST OF JODY'S BOX: THE CONNECTION BETWEEN SUPERCROSS ON TV AND NARCOLEPSY

By Jody Weisel
I have conservatively been to more AMA Nationals, Supercrosses and Grands Prix (and, yes, that is the plural of Grand Prix) than any one person deserves to enjoy—or, in my case, endure. I know that isn’t something you would complain about, but you have to remember, I don’t go to Pro races to enjoy them, hang out with my buddies, tell John Ayers jokes and eat food out of Team Kawasaki’s ice chest. This is my job. I’m working. Back in the days of 35mm Fuji film, I had to shoot 35 rolls of film during a race—this was in the pre-digital era. Back then, I couldn’t see the photos I shot on the spot. When I shot the “Let Broc Bye” photo, I didn’t know whether I really caught it, if it was in focus, or if my F-stop was spot-on. I had to drive my rental car to the airport, catch the Sunday night red eye to Los Angeles and develop the film in my home dark room before I was sure. It didn’t help that I only had six frames left on my 35th roll of film when Keith McCarty held the sign out. Loved the photo; didn’t really enjoy the day.

Troy Aikman Drops Stunning Opinion on New York Giants Legend Lawrence Taylor - Sports Illustrated New York Giants News, Analysis and More

Jan 12, 2021
Even if you weren’t watching the Los Angeles Rams-Seattle Seahawks Wild Card playoff game this past weekend, you probably heard about Fox analyst Troy Aikman making quite the declaration.
I played against Reggie White, I played against Lawrence Taylor ... and I gotta tell you, this Aaron Donald is the best defensive player that I’ve ever seen. He’s really remarkable--he should be the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and I think he should be getting some votes for MVP of the entire league--he’s that good.
No disrespect to Donald, who is an exceptional player, but Aikman's opinion is a head-scratcher.

Lakeville boards get more details on hospital redevelopment

LAKEVILLE — The Planning Board held its third public hearing on site plans for the proposed redevelopment of the Lakeville Hospital campus for a light manufacturing, warehouse or distribution center on Jan. 7. The joint meeting with Conservation Commission, Board of Health and Open Space Committee members lasted long into the night.
The Planning Board spent nearly four hours in a virtual meeting with developers, abutters, and town officials digging into the architectural details of the building, landscaping and lighting plans, and noise mitigation measures. More than an hour was spent on the findings of a study on projected noise from proposed operations, and discussing potential ways to minimize tractor trailer truck noise, back-up alarms, and the sounds of rooftop mechanical equipment at the site.

Did 13 Reasons Spark A Spike In Suicides?

By gregladen
on July 31, 2017.
We do not know if the airing of "13 Reasons Why" caused an increase in suicide or not, and that in and of itself is astonishing. In the world of very advanced techniques for collecting and monitoring data, and in a world that we are led to believe is on the edge of the next epidemic, you would think the suicide rate could be estimated on the fly, with minor corrections later. Climate scientists are able to assimilate tens of thousands of data readings taken multiple times a day around the world into estimates of global surface temperatures. There is a daily ongoing estimate that I assume uses only part of the data, and at the end of every month, the data are crunched and the estimate spilled out, and only rarely is there a correction needed.
