Ohio Democrat Nina Turner Raises $1.6M For Congressional Run

Nina Turner, a Democrat from Ohio, raised $1.6 million during the first quarter of 2021 in support of her campaign to run for congress. Turner is one of seven candidates running to fill Housing and Urban Development Secretary
Marcia Fudge’s seat in the House. 
The Hill reported that Turner is a former Ohio state senator and serves as the president of the group Our Revolution, a progressive coalition based in the state. 
Fudge stepped down as a US Representative of Ohio’s 11th Congressional District when she was confirmed for her role in President Biden’s Cabinet last month. ....

Cuyahoga County Councilwoman and Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Chair Shontel Brown reported raising $680,000 since the start of her campaign to succeed former Rep. Marcia Fudge in the 11th Congressional District special election.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cuyahoga County Councilwoman Shontel Brown reported a significant increase in her fundraising over last quarter for the vacant 11th Congressional District special election.
Brown, a Democrat who also chairs the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, announced raising $640,000 since the beginning of the year for the quarter ending March 31, a marked increase over her first month in the race when she raised around $40,000. The campaign had $550,000 in the bank with around four months until the Aug. 3 special electi ....

Ohio Democrat Nina Turner pulled in nearly $1.6 million for her congressional campaign in the first quarter of 2021, giving her a massive fundraising advantage over her rivals in the primary for Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge
Turner’s first-quarter fundraising haul means that she has raised more than $2.2 million since she launched her House bid in early December. Her campaign will report more than $1 million in cash on hand when it files its first-quarter finance report with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) later this month. 
Turner, a former Ohio state senator and the president of the progressive group Our Revolution, is one of seven Democrats seeking the party’s nomination to replace Fudge, who formally stepped down from her House seat last month after she was confirmed as President Biden ....

Marcia Fudge is leaving the U.S. House. And several candidates are clamoring for her seat in a comfortably liberal district stretching from Cleveland to Akron. 
But of all the candidates who have declared their candidacy, only one is from Summit County. 
Her gerrymandered district one of two majority-minority Ohio districts protected under the Voting Rights Act of 1965  slides along Interstate 77 capturing much of Cleveland, its eastern suburbs, a western portion of Akron and about 30 cities, towns and villages along the way. ....

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Senate on Wednesday voted to confirm Ohio’s Rep. Marcia Fudge as President Joe Biden’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Secretary in a 66 to 34 vote. The Warrensville Heights Democrat will be the first woman to lead HUD in more than 40 years and the second Black woman in history to lead the department.
As HUD Secretary, Fudge has pledged to help make the dream of homeownership a reality for more Americans by ending discriminatory practices in the housing market, and ensure that fair housing rules open the door for families, “especially families of color who have been systematically kept out in the cold across generations, to buy homes and punch their ticket to the middle class.” ....
