The Mahanayake of Asgiri Chapter Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanaratana Thera stated that the whole country should rally against the resolution passed by the Geneva Human Rights Council against Sri Lanka, irrespective of party affiliations.
He also said that if we are not united as a country at this critical juncture, the forces against us will benefit. The Mahanayake Thera made this statement when Education Minister Prof. G.L Pieris visited the Asgiriya Maha Viharaya yesterday (4) and received the blessings of the Chief Prelate.
“The world has seen how the Sri Lankan Army has worked to save the lives of innocent Tamils in the North in the fight against terrorism and this time the pressure exerted on our country by certain pro-LTTE groups can only be defeated if we stand together regardless of race, religion or party affiliations,” the Thera further highlighte ....

UN Human Rights Council: Briefing of member states begins

The Minister of External Affairs Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the Ambassadors of the Member States are being briefed on the resolutions passed against Sri Lanka at the Geneva Human Rights Commission.
He told the Hiru News team that a friendly response was received from allied countries that worked closely with the Sri Lankan government during the previous sessions.
At the last meeting of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva, the Government of Sri Lanka announced that it was withdrawing from Resolution 30-1, which was agreed upon by the Good Governance Government.
At the same time, the Human Rights Commission was informed that a local mechanism would be established to investigate human rights. ....
