UVAS, OZDAC observe World Zoonoses Day

LAHORE : University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with the Organization of Zoonotic Diseases Awareness and Control (OZDAC) observed the World Zoonoses Day and organised an international webinar on “Responsibilities of veterinarians in preventing the emerging zoonotic infections”.
Speakers from Pakistan, the UK, Hong Kong and the UAE attended the webinar through video link and highlighted the importance of emerging zoonotic infections and their control strategies to prevent future pandemics. Speaking on the occasion, UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that the risk of zoonotic infections was increasing and such webinars were important to create awareness in public to better control the zoonotic diseases. He appreciated the efforts of Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) and OZDAC for arranging this informative webinar on World Zoonosis Day. ....

Ability of multi-drug resistant infection to evolve within cystic fibrosis patients highlights need for rapid treatment
Scientists have been able to track how a multi-drug resistant organism is able to evolve and spread widely among cystic fibrosis patients – showing that it can evolve rapidly within an individual during chronic infection.
We hope insights from our research will help us reduce the risk of transmission, stop the bug evolving further, and potentially prevent the emergence of new pathogenic variants
