What a Week: Who do you represent? PUSD ponders area-based elections

Pleasanton Unified has tapped the brakes to slow down its consideration of an in-house proposal to shift Board of Trustees elections from at-large to area-based. The debate (and just how authentic is it?) very much intrigues me...

What a Week: To mask, or not to mask

Masking boils down to me internalizing responsibility (to a fault, sometimes). I just don't want to face a reality where I didn't do everything I could before unknowingly exposing a loved one, a colleague or a bystander to COVID-19.

The crane was being used to build a 25-storey residential tower and was taller than the building it was helping to construct. The upper portion of the crane toppled, leaving most of the crane’s support tower standing.
At least three people were sent to hospital, including one in critical condition, but it is likely there are more injured.

Ready for takeoff: Halifax airport sees uptick in traffic after border restriction loosen

ENFIELD, N.S. --
Increases in flights and passenger traffic at Halifax Stanfield International Airport are encouraging signs of recovery.
The region's largest airport, located in Enfield, N.S., has seen more passengers travelling in the last week than throughout the entire pandemic.
Jeremy Walsh is one of them. He hasn't seen his son in a year, and he recently arrived from Ontario to pick him up and bring him back for a five-week visit.
Low COVID-19 case counts in Nova Scotia and relaxed travel restrictions made the trip possible.
"Where I'm from, they're a lot lower so it's safer," Walsh says.

What a Week: On the road again

Uploaded: Thu, Jul 1, 2021, 5:28 pm
We're on our first real trip since November 2019, and honestly it's a little weird.
As part of taking COVID-19 precautions seriously, my wife and I all but eliminated unnecessary travel in 2020 and early 2021 for personal safety and out of respect for the few family, friends, colleagues and strangers we'd interact with before the vaccinations arrived. We had opted instead to spend our off-time with stay-cations at home or the occasional outdoor trek in the greater Bay Area.
With relaxed restrictions at home in California and our own comfort levels improving as inoculations increase, we took advantage of the opportunity to spend two weeks at family property my grandparents own in rural Wyoming -- in the part of the state my grandpa lived in through high school before attending the U.S. Naval Academy.
