The government has been accused of throwing loose change at the environment and climate, with millions of dollars for fossil fuel industries, but little for renewables and electric vehicles.
Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) spokesperson Matt Rose said the government continues to shovel public money at fossil fuel projects through Budget allocations such as the $275 million set aside for five hydrogen energy hubs.
Subsidies for the gas industry fly in the face of climate science and further demonstrate to the world that despite shifting global trends, Australia remains a climate laggard, Mr Rose said. ....

Rockhampton will be teeming with livestock producers and cattle fans this week as it hosts the nation s premier beef industry event.
Held every three years, Beef Australia 2021 will welcome tens of thousands of visitors from across Australia on May 2-8 and showcase Australia s diverse beef industry.
Beef Australia chief executive Ian Mill says a host of new attractions will feature on this year s program, to appeal to a wider audience than ever before.
The event will be as large as ever, with an abundance of new offerings and importantly, a new virtual component should people not be able to attend in person, he says. It has grown from a beef industry event, to a major event for everyone. ....

PRIDE 2021 a chance for LGBTQIA community to celebrate diversity

The event is being coordinated by Abilene Pride Alliance and will sport a West Texas theme.
Alliance president Sam Hatton said details still are being firmed up, but the event, which includes in its tentative plans a parade, street dance, musical entertainment, vendor fair and a late evening drag show, builds on a 2019 gathering downtown that attracted 500 people to Everman Park.
That event alone, Hatton said, was “incredible” for something put together in two weeks for about $500, and served to highlight the presence of LGBTQIA people in Abilene and how they are “generally unrepresented” here.
LGBTQIA represents lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex and asexual/allied people. ....

Calls for civil war intensified on the right-leaning social media platform Parler on Jan. 6 as President Donald Trump spoke and urged his followers to march on the U.S. Capitol, a USA TODAY analysis shows.
In the minute between 12:15 and 12:16 p.m., Trump told the crowd to head to the Capitol and that “you’ll never take back our country with weakness.” One minute later, a Parler user wrote: “Time to fight. Civil war is upon us.” Another wrote: “We are going to have a civil war. Get ready!!” ....
